   HOME : Frequently Asked Questions
  1. Is commercial use of our accounts permitted?
Yes. There is no difference in charges for personal or commercial use.
  2. What number do I dial to login to ABR Solutions?
We do not provide dial-up access. All of our accounts are reachable through FTP. You need to have access through a local provider in order to make use of our services.
  3. What kind of hardware and software do you use?
We use Intel Pentium Pro and Pentium II servers, running FreeBSD 2.1.7.1 and Apache 1.2.4, with custom enhancements. This platform provides the best price/performance ratio available anywhere; because of its reliability and the easy availability of spare parts and source code, our server uptime in the past year is over 99.9% (including scheduled system maintenance).

Our servers are upgraded frequently, as new and faster technology becomes available. Unlike other providers, we do not carry any customers on slower servers - even with fewer customers, slower servers provide poorer performance.

  4. What kind of network connection do you use?
We are running a collision-free, low-latency, fully switched LAN, connected to two diverse DS-3's for outgoing bandwidth. Our DS-3's are connected to two world-class network service providers, Digex and UUnet.

We have also deployed switched full-duplex Ethernet for our local network topology. This keeps all inter-server and workstation traffic private from outbound traffic and eliminates costly Ethernet collisions. Local network performance is a critical factor that is often completely overlooked or misunderstood by other Web providers.

  5. Will you manage my InterNIC registration for me?
Yes. By default, we handle all InterNIC registrations, as a courtesy to our customers. If you sign up for a new account, we will submit the domain for you. We will keep you informed of the progress of the registration.
  6. Can I have more than one domain in my account?
Yes. You can maintain as many Virtual or Vanity Domains in your account as you like, each in a separate subdirectory. The charge for each such domain is $25 setup and $4/month.
  7. Can I upgrade my account at a later date?
Yes. The charge for upgrading is the difference between the original Setup Fee and the new Setup Fee. We will prorate the monthly charges so that you are not penalized in any way.
  8. Can I host an adult-oriented site?
Technical concerns about the quality of our service for all customers have forced us to establish a policy against most adult-oriented sites. Although we are firmly against censorship, these sites generate a unique pattern of access that is, unfortunately, almost wholly incompatible with general-purpose Web hosting service. Our customers are best served if we focus on our general-purpose hosting services.
  9. How much mail can I store on the system?
Mail is counted towards your disk space allowance, but because mail spool space is often at a premium, we request that you do not use more than one megabyte of space at any time.
Note: If someone mailbombs you, we won't count it against you.
  10. Can I use CGI?
Yes you can. Either you can do it yourself or you can have us do it for you at a minor charge.
  11. Can I Transfer An Existing Domain To ABR Solutions?
Yes. Be sure to specify that you are requesting a transfer and NOT a new domain. You should keep the service at the present site while waiting for Internic to complete the transfer. All email and web pages will still be accessed from the current site. When Internic announces the completion of the transfer there is a 72 hour propagation period where visitors could go to either site. At the end of the 72 hours you should contact the previous host to have them delete the old domain from their records and update their DNS record. If you use this same provider for your Internet access you will not be able to access your domain site at abrsolutions.com until they update their DNS.
  12. What if my question isn't answered here?
Send it to us. We'll get an answer to you as soon as we can. We do, however, give priority to handling e-mail from our current customers.
